Creative Writer
Red Cross volunteers who leave a warm bed to help someone who lost everything in a house fire, a woman who sent a Red Cross message informing her husband stationed overseas of the birth of their first child: the American Red Cross of Greater Grand Rapids touches the lives of thousands of people each year. Help us give these people a voice and inform the community of our vital programs and services by writing articles to be published in our newsletters, website, and local newspapers. Time requirement: 2-4 hours/ month
 
Parade Representative
Short Description: Represent the American Red Cross of Greater Grand Rapids by participating in parades in Kent, Ionia, Barry and Montcalm Counties.
Job Requirements: N/A
Time Commitment: Saturday mornings. There are about fifteen to twenty parades per year.
Expectations: Ability to walk for extended periods of time. Professional conduct and a positive attitude
 
DAT teams
Short Description: The American Red Cross of Greater Grand Rapids, in times of local disaster, deploys Disaster Action Teams (DAT) to address affected individuals and family needs and provide emergency assistance. Job Requirements: For ages sixteen to eighteen. Training is required, but is free. Time Commitment: On-call, with assigned mentor, during available times for an entire week every month. Expectations: Ideal candidate will become DAT Members and have a desire to learn about American Red Cross local disaster response and how they can make a difference reporting. Responsibilities: On-call Preparedness and Response Teens Members are responsible for readiness to respond with their mentor. When in action, they are responsible for helping their mentor provide assistance through accurate casework and reporting.
Benefits of volunteering: Provide emergency assistance to families/individuals. Participate in hands-on volunteer work. Learn/ grow interviewing and casework skills.
 
Transportation Driver

The American Red Cross of Greater Grand Rapids provides free transportation to elderly, low-income, and disabled individuals to their medical, mental health, and social service appointments. Expectations: Well organized, professional, prompt, conduct, and a safe driver. Responsibilities: Follow provided schedule and directions to pick up and drop off clients at their destinations.
